Antique reproduction Marley horse statue
SKU: NP1908
Antique reproduction Marley horse statue made from cast pewter based metal.
The original pair were commissioned for Chateau de Marly in 1739 they were sculpted by Guillaume Coustou the Elder (1677-1746). Apparently it took two years for the completion of the horses to be installed which was carried out in 1745. Each is made from a solid block of marble.
In 1795 the Chevaux de Marly had been moved to the Place de la Concorde, narrowly escaping the chateau's demolition in the early 19th century. They now reside in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France .
